ST. LOUIS SOCCER CLUB
COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM 2006/07 SEASON

A number of St. Louis Soccer Club teams have gone to work for the St. Louis Community, as part of the club’s Community Action Program. Here’s a recap of teams that have finished, currently working on, or will finish during the 06/07 season.

CarwashU-8 & U-12 Girls – Jim Wipke’s (photo, right) two teams recently worked together and and held a “free”  car wash and donated all the proceeds to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.

U-10 Boys – John Gorman’s team adopted a family a Christmas purchasing clothes and household items. In January John’s team also spent a day working with DASA (Disabled Athletes Sports Association) at their annual soccer tournament.

U-11 Boys – Don Furuya’s team spent a Sunday at the Edgewood Children’s Center in Webster Groves raking and picking up leaves.  The team also sponsored three children who live at Edgewood by fulfilling their Christmas Wish List.

harbaughU-12 Girls – Ken Harbaugh’s  - (photo, left) collected Halloween Costumes and donating them to the children at Ranken Jordan on October 22nd.

U-11 Boys – Dave Geerling’s team collected all types of soccer gear and donated it to Soccer Stuff for Iraqi Kids, program set up by the 25th Infantry Division stationed in Irag.

U-12 Boys – Dan Dieckmann’s team collected a whole SUV full of coats and donated them to The Little Bit Foundation. This foundation supplies coats and outerwear to the homeless and low-income clients of St. Patrick Center in downtown St. Louis.

 

U-10 Girls – Steve Zander’s team held a kickball tournament and raffle on October 14th. All the proceeds from the raffle were donated to the Colin Fahrenkamp Memorial Scholarship fund.

U-11 Girls -  Tony Grasso’s team will be participating in the “Relay for Life” cancer walk this spring in May. Last year they participated in the same event and collected over $1,500. They are hoping to exceed that amount this year.

U13henningU-13 Girls – Kerry Henning’s team (photo, right) held a “Get a Kick out of Reading” book drive to promote literacy among children. They collected over 1,700 books, which were then distributed to area children’s hospitals, school, churches, and family programs. They also filled over 3,000 boxes to go to food pantries for Operation Food Search over the holidays (photo, left).

U-17 Girls – Jim Taylor’s team participated in River Clean Up Day. Parents and players partnered with Memco Barge Lines clearing trash and debris from the banks of the Mississippi River in Alton. Approximately twelve miles of river bank was cleared of damaged channel buoys, 55 gallon barrel, jugs, battles etc. Hard work and fun was held by all.

KozneyU-8 Boys – Steve Kozeny’s  (photo at left) team participated in Soccer Kicks for Cancer raising $1,925. The program is a partnership between the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and US Youth Soccer.

U-8 Boys – Steve Redohl’s (photo at bottom right) boys made homemade Christmas cards for the troops. They will be taken to Dollar Tree stores and turned in for the “Christmas Card Roundup”. In March the will also be volunteering at a local food pantry.

RedohlU-10 Boys -  Patrick Kuenze’s  team put on a washer tournament to benefit  D.A.S.A. (Disabled Athletes Sports Association) and St. Louis Scores on September 9th.

U-10 Boys -  Jacobsmeyer’s team  spent time on October 21st  working with the children in the SPENSA program at the Anheuser-Busch Center in Fenton.

U-10 Boys -  Jim Stoeppler’s team will also be participating in the SPENSA program on October 28th.
